Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has demanded the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, from the Nigerian government. Ekpa issued a 72-hour ultimatum for Kanu's release for medical treatment, emphasizing that there is no justification for his continued detention. Despite court orders for Kanu's release, he has remained in detention since June 2021 when he was re-arrested by the Nigerian government.

Ekpa's actions include declaring a week-long sit-at-home in the southeast region to demand Kanu's immediate and unconditional release and to call for a self-referendum for Biafra. He highlighted the need to end the militarization of the southeast and urged Biafrans to participate in civil disobedience. Ekpa also emphasized Kanu's need for medical attention due to injuries sustained while in detention.

The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, led by Ekpa, has been actively advocating for Kanu's release and asserting the rights of Biafrans. Despite challenges and criticisms, Ekpa remains committed to the cause of Biafra's independence and ensuring justice for Kanu.
